Yellow-necked Caterpillar Moth
Datana ministra

Observation date: August 19, 2012
Submitted by: TonyinGA
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: There were approximately 50-75 of them clustered in one general area on a small maple (I think it's a maple) tree in my back yard. I noticed last week that 1/4 of the leaves were gone and didn't think to go back and look. Today I noticed this cluster. The weather here in South GA has been humid, hot, and rainy over the last couple weeks. I am just curious what they are and how to "humanely" deter them from devouring my small tree.
