Coordinator notes: Very exciting! This is Small Checkered-skipper, which is very similar to Mountain C-s. Mountain flies only in May-June, whereas Small flies 2-3 times per year. The key diagnostic differences are on the hindwing, which is not visible in your photo, so I base this ID on the August date. This would be a new record for Taos County, so more confirmation would be desirable.
