Johnson's Hairstreak
Callophrys johnsoni

Observation date: June 03, 2007
Submitted by: pcastrovillo
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This was the fourth year I found C. johnsoni in the Horseshoe Bend, ID area (I believe an eastern extension of its currently recorded range). All sightings, so far, have been along the same 1/2 mi stretch of road and I have hiked approx 1 mi W, 1 mi E and 1 mi N of this area on a number of occasions without ever encountering it. The habitat is transition sage steppe/forest/riparian. The single individual observed and photographed this year was again at a roadside mud puddle in the exact same spot to which the specimen photographed in 2005 was attracted. And, like the specimen in 2005, it only remained at the puddle for a very short time - only a couple photos were obtained before it left.
