Coordinator notes: First, this is incorrectly identified as one of the most common butterflies in the state. However, it is one of the very rarest butterflies in the state...and one of the poorest documented. This is a Large Orange Sulphur (Phoebis agarithe), a tropical butterfly now breeding in that area, but still very rarely seen in California. Congratulations! Your record may be worth publishing in the annual Season Summary of the Lepidopterists' Society.
