Observation notes: Caterpillar found under rock. Previous days had been warm and it probably had come out of "hibernation" but quickly found shelter again as temperatures overnight dipped into low 30's. Surrounding vegetation is scrubby/weedy...thistles, lots of Fragaria (sp?), sedges etc...disturbed edge of Appalachian Mtns woodland.
