Coordinator notes: Pyrgus communis and Pyrgus albescens are indistinguishable from field photographs. The only reliable means of identification is by examination of the male valves using a microscope. However, after having done such examinations for a few years, I have found only P. communis in east Tennessee. While I can't make this identification with absolute certainty, there is a very high probability that this is P. communis. I want to get this sighting recorded for posterity because this is an early date for Pyrgus in east Tennessee.
