Eastern Comma
Polygonia comma

Observation date: March 25, 2017
Submitted by: Anne Wills
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: High overcast, breezy, about 75 degrees. We were on a grassy path between last year's stubbly field and a bottom-area beside a creek, about 400 feet from the Ohio River. Sycamore, locust, walnut, hawthorn, maple, oak; grape and poison ivy vines; mixed grasses and weeds; lots of bamboo. The butterfly was flitting rather quickly among the vines, about ten feet above the ground, and finally settled briefly on one of the grape-vines.
