Western Tiger Swallowtail
Papilio rutulus

Observation date: July 12, 2016
Submitted by: A.Y.Liang
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: A very tattered Papilio rutulus male patrolling for females on a straight path along a creek at the bottom of a hill. A few other males were also patrolling and sometimes chased each other. The path was abundant with host Salix (willow). This individual never landed, so in order to photograph it, the butterfly was netted, posed on a plant, and released again.
