Mexican agapema
Agapema anona

Observation date: December 28, 2016
Submitted by: B Gentry
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Overcast and still; subject was inactive
Status: Resident
Verified by: stomlins701
Verified date: December 30, 2016
Coordinator notes: Based on the sighting locale and range, and the whitish coloration of the wings, this looks like A. anona platensis, as described in "The Wild Silk Moths of North America" by Tuskes, Tuttle, and Collins (1996) pp. 169-175. MPG and bugguide.net and BAMONA include this subspecies under species 'anona". A. solita is a species supposedly confined to the Lower Rio Grande Valley and not recorded since the 1960's (from the text referenced above). Wonderful find and a great photo which the BAMONA website needs for this species. SAT
