Observation notes: caterpillar demonstrated defensive mode upon close approach. Weather clear, 84 degrees F., under hardwood forest (northern red oak, black oak, chestnut oak, black gum, occasional eastern white pine and table mountain pine). crawling on ground and sandstone rocks.
