Observation notes: Partly cloudy, low 80's, breezy, very humid. This caterpillar was crawling rather slowly across the gravel road, which had recently (2 weeks?) been chemically defoliated. Two caterpillars, of the same kind, were dead, about 2 feet away. Nearby were locust, juniper, maple, sycamore, autumn olive, lespedeza, mixed grasses, poison ivy, iron weed, chicory, black-eyed susans, wingstem, crown vetch, honeysuckle.
