Observation date: June 26, 2016
Submitted by: Kristie Nelson
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: first seen puddling on garden soil in the open, which is odd for a comma! Only seen that once before. Initially not sure on ID, but it was very brown below, and far, far more patterned below than any Hoary's I've photographed. The clincher, though for me was the line below the comma that is not at all jagged, but smooth & a bit concave. That matches Satyr and not Hoary in all BofA photos. Stinging nettle is abundant on Dechambeau creek, and this is a species I've seen a few times before. But not this time of year.
