Observation notes: I have not found any means to separate palla and gabbii though I suspect only gabbii is in this area. Individual was found on an exposed branch. It was missing a hindwing and was in no rush to perch somewhere smarter!

Coordinator notes: Neither of your guesses is correct. This desert subspecies is neumoegeni. I found several of those in that area about 6-7 weeks ago-Ken Davenport Northern Checkerspots are in the Frazier Park area in June. Check the Yerba santa when in bloom.
