Observation notes: Clear morning along the edge of the woods as far as I remember. Dry winter leaves are seen in the original photo below the leaf the butterfly is on.

Coordinator notes: You suggested this may be the "viola form," which is characterized as a subspecies of M. cymela in the Pelham catalog. However, it is very unlikely that this specimen is M. c. viola, as this subspecies only occurs in FL and GA (and one record in KY). An accompanying ventral photo would also be important for M. c. viola consideration.
