Vine sphinx
Eumorpha vitis

Observation date: November 13, 2015
Submitted by: hlivings
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: There were 2 caterpillers in the same location on the same vine. The other one was lime green the identical white spots. I assume they are different color morphs of the same species
Status: Resident
Verified by: stomlins701
Verified date: January 18, 2016
Coordinator notes: In central and south TX, Cissus trifoliata (called possum grape or sorrel vine), is the preferred foodplant of E. vitis. This is what your caterpillar sighting is on. I raised many of these when I was a teenager northeast of San Antonio. There are green and brown forms of this caterpillar as you noted.
