Coordinator notes: This specimen is a female. Many female Pearl Crescents have such light and dark cells on the dorsal forewing. A ventral hindwing photo would be needed to bring Tawny Crescent into consideration. Also, the historical flight period of Tawny Crescent in the Central Appalachians is from late May to early July (never in early August. A further consideration - none have been recorded in this area of the country since the mid-20th century.
