Observation notes: Caterpillar was found off the boardwalk in Bayou Des Familles behind the Pecan Grove Education Center within the Barataria Preserve Unit of Jean Lafitte National Historic Site and Preserve. Very large specimen roughly 2.5" in length. It would hide it's head at the sight of movement by retracting it slightly and curling it down underneath itself. Plants near it were aquatic, I think it was in an unintended situation.
