Polyphemus moth
Antheraea polyphemus

Observation date: September 13, 2015
Submitted by: Keena Heathershaw
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: She was rescued from the cat on our patio, put in a Butterfly Habitat. She laid tiny, tan, round eggs in clumps & singly. We let her free. Eggs hatched into tiny caterpillars that reminded me of mosquito larva. Not knowing what they would eat, we let them go in a garden with Althea, Spirea, Mexican Petunia, some bulbs, Sunflowers, Vitex-Chaste & a Durante. I will be watching for their growth. Have never seen a Moth that big in my yard. Hoping to have more.
