Mournful Duskywing
Erynnis tristis

Observation date: September 24, 2015
Submitted by: pumblebumble
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Sunny, cooler morning, about 75 degrees. It was flitting around the zinnias.
Status: Resident
Verified by: stomlins701
Verified date: February 02, 2016
Coordinator notes: Based on the heavily mottled forewings and the lack of a significant pale patch on the forewing cell, along with an id'd photo on bugguide.net from Hidalgo Co. that looks much like this, I believe this is a Mournful Duskywing, E. tristis. In that thread, they make a comment on how much this looks like the Arizona Juvenal's Duskwing, E. juvenalis clitus, and I think that this specimen bears a strong resemblance as well. However, that species would be well out of range for San Antonio. SAT http://bugguide.net/node/view/234282
