Observation date: September 20, 2015

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: From my own research I'm not sure if it's a Monarch or Viceroy (?) because in this photo I missed getting the hind wings in view. I watched the butterfly flap and glide all around and with the seagulls a bit and then return to the same general area of sand on the beach and land on various things and appear to eat or whatever he was doing, then he would fly away happily and come back. he let me get fairly close to him without getting scared. it was a sunny day about 70 degrees about 6pm on Long Beach, NY.
