Observation notes: This caterpillar was seen with several others on what appeared to be water hemlock plants, and it revealed an osmeterium when disturbed (visible in photograph 2 but not in 1).

Coordinator notes: This is very dark, but the markings and the plant both point to Eastern Black Swallowtail. Most larvae of this species are green, with those marks.
