Bordered Patch
Chlosyne lacinia

Observation date: August 19, 2015
Submitted by: dbutlerlynch
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: A cool day in August, NW Oklahoma City. Rained most of the morning. We have 17 giant sunflowers, over 6 feet tall. These caterpillars are covering the giant leaves with their chew trails and their scat. There's great variation in the ratio of Orange to black on their bodies, but they are all about the same size. I have 4 giant sunflowers that are covered in these caterpillars from about waist height att he way to the top, but only on the leaves.
