Observation notes: Well, we couldn't resist updating our last two sightings. Exactly 10 days after our Luna eggs were laid by our Luna moth that emerged from our cocoon which we found in our bag after visiting a local park and had a Luna caterpillar crawl inside, we put on our caterpillar birthday hats this morning! We have been checking on our eggs each morning and today at 7:30, we had the amazing experience of watching these tiny creatures eat their way out of their eggs. Approximately 200 caterpillars emerged and quickly found their way across the screen of the porch ... some of them finding a hole and crawling out. We moved a large number of them outside to a host tree (walnut), and saved a few for further observation on the screened in porch. We feel very lucky to have had this experience and hope that the caterpillars are able to mature and thrive in our garden. We are thankful for this website which has provided us with information along the way, and has made the experience even more fun, by giving us a relevant place to record and post it.
