Coordinator notes: The picture of this duskywing shows that the forewings do not have any hyline spots (white)and there is a "chain" of spots. This characterize both E. icelus and also E. brizo. Erynnis icelus as I have assigned to this sighting, feeds on legume (pea-family) plants while the host plant for E. brizo is Oak. The individual looks like a male and male icelus have heavy spotting on the hindwings as this individual also shows so this is the rational with the diagnosis. Oak is widespread in some places in Gunnison County and I believe I have found both species under similar situations. Icelus tends to be found at colder locations while brizo where it is lower and perhaps a bit more temperate in climate (usually below 8000 ft.). In some places, both will overlap in mountainous canyon country. Mike
