Cecropia silkmoth
Hyalophora cecropia

Observation date: July 01, 2015
Date notes: Wild male came to caged female on 30 June. Experience has taught me that male Cecrpias cannot be expected to find their way through the open door into the "bug dorm" so I caught it with a net. Alarmed, it refused to mate on 30 June but did so the following night.

Experience has taught me that male Cecrpias cannot be expected to find their way through the open door into the "bug dorm" so I caught it with a net. Alarmed, it refused to mate on 30 June but did so the following night. Most cecropias eclosed at the beginning of June - this seems to be evidence of the staggered emergence of cecropia moths referred to in literature
