  Sighting 1050278

Observation date: June 25, 2015
Submitted by: Victoria7301
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Very large--wingspan nearly 6 inches. Observed twice near house, landing each time in a darkened, shadowed area with wings held in horizontal postion. Antennae thin & smooth, appearing to be clubbed but not able to seen clearly when at rest because end of antennae held beneath wings. I have lived here over 45 years, can identify most butterflies & mothes, but have never seen this species before.
Status: Migrant

Coordinator notes: There seems to be a surge of sightings of this species recently, especially in Texas, so I think there may be a strong migration north this summer. Keep on the lookout for more. SAT
