Observation notes: Warm day low eighties chamise, sage scrub, some scrub oaks mountain mahogany interior live oaks in drainage areas. red berry along dirt road both upper and lower side of road. we saw lots of red berry also in meadows in rocky areas with engelman oaks mostly under the oaks but also scattered. Emmel and Emmel have plates P.127 of male and female spread wing. i think this is a male. mostly by the territorial behavior of chasing others of same species and other species away. these were along the dirt road in sheltered area from prevailing west wind. windy clear day. Saw at least ten individuals of this species this day. two weeks later we went back, saw only seven in same stretch. more worn faded will post over half of the habitat that this species lives in has been marginalized due to development and fire. as per fish and wildlife study/ on going as per post.
