Observation notes: Having a hard time IDing this first of the year fritillary-- first seen yesterday 6/13 (2 -3 individuals) which flew by never landing. This one (6/14) only landed for a second or 2

Coordinator notes: This is subspecies nevadensis. Separable from zerene which has very small silvered spots or lacking any silvering and which emerges just a little later in the season. And zerene is generally is a bit larger. Your photo was difficult and I had to recheck my own color plates to be sure!-Ken Davenport
