Ceanothus silkmoth
Hyalophora euryalus

Observation date: May 22, 2015
Submitted by: schamberlin
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I have lived at this same location for 30 years and this is the 3rd time in that many years that that I have observed this moth (?) which has appeared at this same place. It is not listed in my very limited Audubon Field Guide. The photos attached are of two different moths within 3 feet of each other, they look to be the same species. They are both on my garage door where I have always seen them. They are not eating anything. Sighted in the evening after a warm day in the high 70's with scattered thunderstorms.

Coordinator notes: Thanks for the record! The adults do not possess functioning mouthparts, and therefore, do not eat anything.
