Observation notes: The insect in the foreground of the second photo had settled on a blossom, and the second butterfly kept fluttering around, finally settling on another cluster of blossoms from the same stalk (visible in the immediate background). One of the reasons I want to identify this species is to help me identify the flowers they are feeding on -- can't tell if that is water hemlock or something more benign.
