Pacific Orangetip
Anthocharis sara

Observation date: March 24, 2015
Submitted by: ezeemonee
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Sunny windy day with Santa Ana winds at Santa Barbara Shores Park. Several Orangetip butterflies were flying around wild mustard along side mountain bike trail but rarely landing. This one stopped briefly to feed on purple wildflowers that may be Verbena. The area was sheltered by large Eucalyptus trees that may have provided some shelter from the high winds. Temperatures were in the high 70's F. Other butterflies in the area included Cabbage Whites, Buckeyes, and Monarchs.
