  Sighting 1016937

Observation date: September 20, 2014
Submitted by: Mary Franceline...
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This is the same butterfly I reported in 1016727. The top one I thought I also sent but for some reason it did not go. All the photos of the butterfly that showed the upper forewing had the white band across one cell. Question, are butterflies somehow banded in this way?
Status: Migrant

Verified date: September 26, 2014
Coordinator notes: Some cells of the forewing apex have true white pigment. It seems the one cell, however, has a scrape with loss of orange scales giving the appearance of white banding. The some wing has an amputated apex indicating a run-in with a predator.
