Observation notes: very hot dry clear sunny day chaparral oak pine forest with lots of grasses there was tall buckwheat and asters blooming, not a lot of other blooms until we hit the higher level this one seemed to smile and want to pose to bee seen makes me laugh to look at a close up of its face. there were also male and female woodland skippers, higher up we saw a anise? swallow tail. we looked for golden hs but struck out.
