Observation notes: This skipper butterfly was feeding from clover flowers in our pesticide free lawn. Honey bees and other types of butterflies were also frequenting the clover flowers and flying around the vicinity.

Coordinator notes: Based on locality it should be a White Checkered Skipper but Common Checkered Skippers may eventually turn up in Ventura County. The two are indistinguishable except by using the shape of the male genitalia. Yours is a girl and only albescens is known from that county so far..but Kern, Santa Barbara and SLO Cos. seem to have both-Ken Davenport
