Why are your photographs of poor quality, and what do the colorful borders indicate?

The photographs displayed on the Butterflies and Moths of North America web site were part of the original web sites developed by the Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center. The photographs were scanned from high quality slides and their quality was reduced to prevent copying for commerical use. Their colorful borders do not have any ascertainable meaning.

At present, we are collecting new high quality photographs to replace the ones presently displayed on the site. Please be patient; updating the images is quite an undertaking.
