I want to submit new photographs for use on the web site. What should I do?
Thank you for your interest in submitting new photographs. Please follow these steps to ensure that your photographs are submitted in the proper format and can be quickly added to the database and web site.
1. To ensure that all photographs are properly identified, you must first get verification from an expert. E-mail small versions (thumbnails) of your photographs to your state/regional coordinator. (Find your coordinator.) In your e-mail, include the date and specific location where you took the photos.
After your coordinator has verified the identification, you can submit your photographs and photograph submission form.
2. Please provide two versions of each photograph: the original, and a cropped version. Crop the photograph so that the insect fills the entire frame. Put your name/copyright statement directly on the cropped photograph. The cropped image can be no wider than 640 pixels, and it must be in JPEG (.jpg) format at 72dpi. We are trying to replace the photographs with the colorful borders, so please do not add these to your photographs.
See this good example.
3. Use of a Submission Form (.xls) speeds the transfer of new photographs to the database and web site. Please fill in all of the columns if you can. The number that belongs in the first column is the species identification number used in our database. To find that number for any species, simply search for the species in the database, click on that species, and you will see the four digit number at the end of the web address. For example, see Alypia octomaculata, number 5097. If you do not have access to Excel, please contact Kelly Lotts (lotts(at)montana.edu) for a different version.
4. Send the coordinator’s verification e-mail, your photographs, and the completed submission form to Kelly Lotts: lotts(at)montana.edu.
